AncientReads: free literary education

AncientReads helps readers discover literature and take the next step toward reading it. It is operated by Educational Literary Resources, Inc. and is available without fees, membership, or a donation.

• Classics Navigator: match reader stage, interests, difficulty, length, translation style, and format with Greek and Roman works.
• Classics Arcade: explore figures and ideas through quizzes leading into reading recommendations. Results are educational prompts, not psychological assessments.
• Practical guides: use a reading routine, comparison workshop, and shared-collection planning worksheet.
• Accessible formats: find routes to audio, e-books, enlarged text, and services for eligible print-disabled readers.

These tools serve students, educators, families, book clubs, and independent learners. Reader-stage filters are guidance, not a guarantee of suitability; ancient works can contain difficult or mature material.

Book Access & Distribution

This program is intended to turn charitable contributions into books and educational materials for institutional recipients. Its current stage is planning and startup; ELR does not yet report completed shipments or named recipient partnerships.

How donation-funded distribution will work

1. A donor gives to ELR. Contributions support ELR's own charitable program, not a purchase by the donor from a retailer or a pass-through gift to a charity selected at checkout.
2. ELR sets a purchasing budget. Available funds are considered alongside book prices, shipping, applicable taxes, and reasonable program expenses. Small gifts may be pooled; a gift amount does not guarantee a fixed number of books.
3. ELR selects suitable institutions and materials. Books must fit educational use, reader needs, and the recipient's published acceptance policy or other confirmed receiving arrangements.
4. Books are purchased and delivered. ELR may arrange direct shipment from a bookseller rather than hold inventory or operate a public drop-off site.
5. ELR records the result. The intended record includes purchases, quantities, recipients, costs, and available shipping or receipt evidence. An order placed is not reported as a confirmed delivery.

Who may be considered

Schools, public and school libraries, and educational organizations serving the public are the intended recipients. Selection considers reading level, subject relevance, access needs, ability to receive and use books, delivery cost, and available resources. No geographic coverage or allocation is guaranteed.

Institutions may send an inquiry. This does not guarantee acceptance. Please do not send student names, private beneficiary addresses, or sensitive records. We are not currently accepting individual book requests or unsolicited shipments at our mailing address.

Program safeguards

ELR retains responsibility for mission-related purchases and recipients. No title, institution, shipment date, or quantity is promised unless separately confirmed. We do not represent proposed recipients as partners without an established relationship.

We will publish developments in Updates and explain funds in Transparency. Donations are never required to use our free resources.
